Will the Carnival Victory Ever Become the Carnival Radiance?

Transformation of the Carnival Victory to the Carival Radiance Continues to be suspended in Spain

It is unclear if work will ever resume on the transformation  of the Carnival Victory to the Carnival Radiance at Spain's Navantia Shipyard.

The Carnival Victory sailed transatlantic to Cadiz Spain and promptly entered the dry-dock. Demolition began on the Transatlantic voyage and work was planned to begin immediately. A Greek Ferry was chartered by the shipyard to house all of the workers during the 2 month,  $200 million dollar transformation into the Carnival Radiance.

Before the ferry could reach the shipyard in Spain, it was diverted back to Greece because the Coronavirus hit Spain very hard and the shipyard was forced to pause operations.  All work stopped. The skeletal crew remained on board the ship and were trapped onboard in Spain.

Work was to be completed by April 24, 2020 and the transformed Carnival Radiance was to sail a short series of European Cruises followed by a Transatlantic Voyage to New York. Once in New York, the ship was to sail a summer and fall series of cruises from the Big Apple to Bermuda, Bahamas, and Caribbean.

Unfortunately this was not meant to be. As of July 5th the Carnival Victory is still sitting idle in Cadiz Spain. Limited work had started but for the most part - no significant improvements have been made. Photos of the ship show her hull rust streaked from lack of maintenance. Perhaps she too may be on the for sale list.

According to Carnival's website the Carnival Radiance is supposed to sail from Port Canaveral Florida on November 15, 2020 on a 6-day cruise to Nassau, Amber Cove and Grand Turk.

At a time where Carnival is trying to keep down costs because of the coronavirus and the pause in operations - the $200 Million required to upgrade the ship could be used elsewhere. Unfortunately the 2020 New York season - isn't going to happen and as of now the 2021 season has the Carnival Magic sailing from New York.
