Rendering of Carnival Cruises' Carnival Radiance - Refit Suspended. It is unclear if work will ever resume on the transformation  of the Carnival Victory to the Carnival Radiance at Spain's Navantia Shipyard. The Carnival Victory sailed transatlantic to Cadiz Spain and promptly entered the dry-dock. Demolition began on the Transatlantic voyage and work was planned to begin immediately. A Greek Ferry was chartered by the shipyard to house all of the workers during the 2 month,  $200 million dollar transformation into the Carnival Radiance. Before the ferry could reach the shipyard in Spain, it was diverted back to Greece because the Coronavirus hit Spain very hard and the shipyard was forced to pause operations.  All work stopped. The skeletal crew remained on board the ship and were trapped onboard in Spain. Predictions on the future of the cruise industry post coronavirus Here is my prediction of the future impacts of the coronavirus on the cruise industry in the months / years ahead.  Basically the damage has been done and it will be a long time before cruise passengers have confidence to return to the ships. In the near term 1-6 months: When cruise lines resume operations after a temporary suspension, a good number of their ships will remain laid-up. They just will NOT be able to fill all the ships right away. The number of cruise ports that prohibit cruise ship calls will increase. Bergen, Norway just joined the list of  destinations saying - "No Thanks" to the cruise lines. Ships will be laid up due to the lack of demand.  Itineraries will be altered based on the health of those onboard. Coronavirus Wreaks Havoc on the Cruise Industry as Passengers Want to Limit Exposure. The Coronavirus is wreaking havoc on the cruise industry. Here is the latest developments. Princess Cruises’ Grand Princess is sailing in circles off the coast of San Francisco California with 3,500+ Passengers and   crew, while the United States Government is trying to locate a non-commercial port to dock the ship and let off passengers and crew off into a quarantine facility onshore. Although it has not been confirmed, but reports indicate that the Grand Princess will dock in Oakland, California today but supposedly plans are still in the works.   There is now additional concerns that a crew member from the the Grand Princess was assigned to another cruise ship, the Regal Princess and the government is now testing 2 crew members onboard the Regal Princess to assure the crew members was not infected.
