5/10/2016 - Today Crystal Cruises solidified it order with Lloyd Werft Group for its first ocean-going newbuild. This ordered signifies the first new ship for Crystal in more than a decade. The Lloyd Werft Press release identifies an order for 3 ships with the first being delivered in 2019. No delivery dates have been mentioned for the additional ships.

As per the release, it appears that the ships will be larger than first expected. Original details stated that the ships would be about 100,000 tons, but it appears the ships will be 17% larger (expected to be 117,000 tons).

Crystal Cruises which offers high-end luxury cruises, is expected to exceed passengers expectations with these new vessels which will have exceptional passenger / space ratios. The new ships are expected to carry approximately 1,000 passengers double occupancy for Crystal, while other contemporary brand ships of this size carry at least 2,500 vacationers.

Crystal Cruises has been recently acquired by Genting Group who is heavily investing in the Crystal brands.

Crystal Cruises sails seasonally from New York offering Transatlantic re-postioning cruises in the spring as well as New England / Canada cruises in the fall. I expect that the new ship will probably visit New York at least once in its first year to provide the media and travel agents exposure to Crystal's latest jewel.
