  Dream Cruises Ship Part of Genting Group Hong Kong Genting Hong Kong has suspended all payments to creditors, sparking a 33% drop in the company’s share price. Genting cited COVID-19’s impact on its operations  — which include Dream Cruises, Star Cruises and Crystal Cruises — for the cash crunch, in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange Wednesday night.   ‘The Group has undertaken a number of cost reduction and cash conservation measures to mitigate the effects of the resultant loss of revenues from its operations,’ the statement said. The company owed a total of $3.4bn as of July 31.   Bank fees due on newbuilds On August 17, Dream Global One Ltd and Dream Global Two Ltd (subsidiaries of Genting HK) were required to pay bank fees amounting to  €3.7m in connection with the financing of the construction of ‘certain ships’, said the company statement. Luxury cruise operator Crystal Cruises has cancelled cruises for the remainder of 2020 on board its 3 ocean going ships - the Crystal Symphony, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Esprit. The cruise line cited the constantly changing variables related to COVID-19, coupled with differing restrictions for international travel. Crystal Cruises had previously cancelled their 2020 New England / Canada cruises  based on covid cases and the closure of Northeast United States ports. As you know, Crystal Cruises has announced that they are interested in potentially acquiring the S/S United States for further cruise service. At this time, Crystal Cruises is funding the layup fees (berthing and security costs) associated with retaining the liner at her Philadelphia berth. The one time great transatlantic liner was the fastest liner afloat and still holds the record today. Competition from airlines and high wages for her crew made her operation uneconomical and in 1969 she was withdrawn from service. The S/S United States was laid up in originally  in Norfolk, Va and later Philadelphia (after all of her interiors had been gutted in Turkey including the removal of vast amounts of asbestos). The intent was to return the ship to the US and have her restored to the Grand Liner she once was. Artists Rendering of Crystal Cruises' New Ship Under Construction at Lloyd Werft 5/10/2016 - Today Crystal Cruises solidified it order with Lloyd Werft Group for its first ocean-going newbuild. This ordered signifies the first new ship for Crystal in more than a decade. The Lloyd Werft Press release identifies an order for 3 ships with the first being delivered in 2019. No delivery dates have been mentioned for the additional ships. As per the release, it appears that the ships will be larger than first expected. Original details stated that the ships would be about 100,000 tons, but it appears the ships will be 17% larger (expected to be 117,000 tons). Crystal Cruises' Crystal Serenity Transatlantic Cruise From New York After spending overnight in New York City, Crystal Cruise's Crystal Serenity sailed out of the harbor this evening (5/9). The luxury ship, Crystal Serenity was embarking on a 16 - Day Cruise to Rhode Island, Boston, Canada, Iceland, Denmark and ending in Dover, England on May 24th.
