Peaceboat's New Ship - EcoShip - Partially Sail powered

Now in the last stages of planning, the "Ecoship" will be built by Finland's Arctech. It will cost about $500 million, financed in part by impact investors -- funds, rich families and individuals who want to use their cash to improve the world as well as make a profit. 

"Ecoship was a dream for me," said Peace Boat founder Yoshioka Tatsuya. "Using a conventional ship was frustrating for us, even though we tried our best to reduce the emissions."

A conventional cruise ship can burn hundreds of tons of heavy fuel oil a day and emit as much particulate matter as a million cars, according to German environmental group NABU.
The "Ecoship" will be fueled by a much cleaner combination of solar panels, wind power and liquid natural gas, and should produce 40% less carbon dioxide than a traditional cruise ship.

"We will have 10 sails, so it will use the wind like traditional sailing ships," Tatsuya explained.

Remembering United States Lines S/S United States' Maiden Voyage.

RXR Reality's Artists Rendering of the S/S United States after it is jubilantly restored. Today marks the 68th anniversary of the maiden voyage of the SS United States of United States lines. The ship left New York on July 3, 1952 with a full complement of passengers. The ship broke the prior speed record for the transatlantic crossing taking the blue ribbon away from the queen Mary. Yes if United States was the fastest    ship to ever cross the Atlantic at 35.92 knots. The SS United States remained in service until 1969 at which time she was laid up. Numerous plans to reactivate the ship never materialized and the ship has remained idle and stripped of her interiors.  To date, the 55,330 GRT, SS United States is the largest passenger ship to be built entirely in the US. Atlantic Container Lines (ACL) Suspends Passenger Operations For The Remainder Of The Year.

Atlantic Container Line's G4 Container Ship Suspend Passenger Operations Due to COVID Restrictions On Friday May 22, 2020, Atlantic Container Line's (ACL) parent company Grimaldi Lines announced that “it has been decided to suspend passenger service on ACL, G4 Container vessels until the end of 2020.” After several weeks of valiantly trying to maintain its weekly passenger service between Hamburg, Antwerp, Liverpool, Halifax, New York and Baltimore, complications caused by Covid-19 have finally made it impossible to continue to offer passenger service. The Grimaldi Group stated  that many affected passengers have already re-booked for 2021. Those recently impacted by the announcement are now being contacted to move their reservation . The five ACL ships carry 12 passengers each and offer an annual capacity of 600 passengers in each direction.
