Where will Cunard Operate the Queen Mary 2 when Cunard resumes sailing?  It is predicted that most cruises lines will favor shorter cruises with limited days at sea. I am curious to see if operators like Cunard Line, who sail the Queen Mary 2 from New York to Southampton England with 5 to 7 days at sea, will alter their itineraries.  Cunard will be faced with many decisions including whether to use the ship exclusively for European cruises and abandon the New York - Southampton crossing; operate sailings from New York to other destinations; Reduce the the number of transatlantic voyages and increase the speed of the ship during these voyages to reduce the time at sea; or have one of the most rigorous sterilization programs of any of the cruise lines sailing. It should be noted that NO cases of the coronavirus was reported on board the Queen Mary 2 as of June 28th. Atlantic Container Lines (ACL) Suspends Passenger Operations For The Remainder Of The Year.

Atlantic Container Line's G4 Container Ship Suspend Passenger Operations Due to COVID Restrictions On Friday May 22, 2020, Atlantic Container Line's (ACL) parent company Grimaldi Lines announced that “it has been decided to suspend passenger service on ACL, G4 Container vessels until the end of 2020.” After several weeks of valiantly trying to maintain its weekly passenger service between Hamburg, Antwerp, Liverpool, Halifax, New York and Baltimore, complications caused by Covid-19 have finally made it impossible to continue to offer passenger service. The Grimaldi Group stated  that many affected passengers have already re-booked for 2021. Those recently impacted by the announcement are now being contacted to move their reservation . The five ACL ships carry 12 passengers each and offer an annual capacity of 600 passengers in each direction. 1988: Ivaran's Americana - Containership With 100 Passengers in Luxury

The Americana, which was built in South Korea for Norwegian-owned Ivaran Lines, was a pure container ship that also will carry 108 passengers. The 19,203 ton ship measures 580 Feet long; 85 feet wide and carried 1,120 20-foot containers. At a time when most container ship operators shunned passengers in favor of cargo, Ivaran says carrying people along with cargo mades financial sense. Ivaran, which has sailed between North and South America for 62 years, expects the additional revenue from passenger travel to make up for the added costs of building first-class accommodations on the ship. The first voyage from New York to South America was in February, 1988 which was 46 day voyage that stopped at about 15 ports in the United States and South America, such as Rio de Janeiro, Santos and Buenos Aires.
