Royal Caribbean's Earnings Call - Royal Caribbean May Sell Off Older Ships.

Image
Empress of the Seas is One of the Royal Caribbean Ships At Risk Of Being Sold In a recent earnings call Royal Caribbean Group announced that they are indeed looking at possibly shedding older ships in addition to the Sovereign and Monarch (ex Monarch of the Seas and Sovereign of the Seas) which were recently beached in Alaiga, Turkey. Royal Caribbean has announced that the 3rd ship in the Pullmantur fleet - the Zenith - which sailed for many years from New York to Bermuda for Celebrity Cruises - will most likely be scrapped. The Zenith is laid up in Lavrio Greece.  Just as a side note the Zenith was supposed to be chartered/purchased by Peaceboat, org for world wide peace missions. She was supposed to sail along side the Ocean Dream (originally built as Carnival Cruises' Tropicale). Based on the announcement above it is unclear which ship(s) Peaceboat will operate in 2021. The Zenith's identical sister ship - the Horizon is also at risk. The Horizon was also a popular ship fo...

When Will Cruising Return to New York and New Jersey?

Image
The Return to Cruising From New York and New Jersey Is Still TBD (To Be Determined) For months now, the cruise lines have been discussing the restart of operations.  All communications have identified the return to cruising to be primarily in Florida (Miami and Port Canaveral) and the Gulf Coast ports in Texas. There has been no mention of cruising returning from the port of New York and New Jersey. With the recent spike in coronavirus cases in Florida and the Gulf Ports. The cruise lines have turned their attention to Europe. The European Union has also put into effect a series of restrictions and guidelines cruise lines need to follow which will greatly reduce the ship's capacity and impact the onboard experience. It does not appear that New York or New Jersey is part of the phase 1 of   the initial return to service after the pause. My best guess would be April of 2021 with a limited return to service when the Bermuda, New England / Canada and F...

Royal Caribbean to Continue to Offer Buffets Post Pandemic / Pause in Operations

Image
Royal Caribbean to Offer Buffets Post Operational Pause. Royal Caribbean has announced that they will continue to offer buffets on their cruise ships post pandemic. Royal Caribbean has hinted that the future of the buffet may include 1) Having a crew member dish out portions so only one person touches the utensils; 2) food dispensed in single serve portions. Pick and Go.  3) Disposable utensils - only you use the serving spoon and then dispose. It is possible to see a combination of all of the option above on the RCCL ships. Royal Caribbean has to depend on buffets to feed a portion of their passenger base since there are not enough onboard space in the restaurants to accommodate everyone. Holiday Cruises From New York and New Jersey

Image
Holiday Cruising From New York / New Jersey I have my fingers crossed that life will be somewhat back to normal by Christmas. For those seeking a holiday cruise, I wanted to share with you a Holiday and New Year Cruise I took in 2014/15 with my family which was quite enjoyable. I hope you enjoy this read........... In my 40 years of cruising, I have never taken a cruise over the Christmas or New Year's holidays until this year (2014/15). On December 22nd, I boarded Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Gem on an 11-day cruise from New York, visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, St. Maarten; St. Kitts and Tortola. I chose the cruise because of the duration and the selection of ports that are seasonally visited from New York. In addition, this is one of the few cruises that incorporated both the Christmas holiday and the New Year's celebration.
