Since cruise lines will be asked to take added measures to ensure that ships are sterilized and kept virus free on a continual basis, the cruise lines are taking actions in order to illuminate any potential bad press as well as media attention.  Cruise lines are working on proactively managing the health of passengers throughout the cruise, requiring the crew to wear protective face gear, reducing the availability of buffets, having crew members place food on passengers plates, sterilization of the public areas, fogging of the cruise passenger cabins, and increased medical staff. Virgin Voyages Announced New York City Introduction For Their New Scarlet Lady Has Been Cancelled Virgin Voyages has announced that the New York preview of their new ship - the Scarlet Lady - has been cancelled. The visit, originally scheduled for 3/6/2020 and staying the in Big Apple for about one week will not happen. Virgin stated in a prepared statement: “In light of the current news headlines, we want to ensure everyone feels it is the right time to celebrate with us. We understand people may want to focus on other things at the moment, so we have made the decision to reschedule our upcoming Showcase Tour stop and events in New York City. We plan to sail back to New York soon for you to visit her." MSC Cruises' MSC Meravilgia - Closes out MSC 2019 Cruise season from New York - Departing on a Southern Caribbean Cruise MSC Cruise MSC Meravilgia closed out MSC Cruises 2019 season from New York to New England- Canada. At 7:04 PM, the largest cruise ship to call at Manhattan to date, the MSC Meravilgia silently pulled away from the pier 88 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on her way to the Southern Caribbean and her new Winter Homeport - Miami. After completing her New England & Canada Program, the MSC Meravilgia departed on a  14 Day  repositioning cruise from New York (on October 28th) to the Southern Caribbean which includes a stop at MSC Private Reserve - Ocean Cay in the Bahamas.
