Aida Cruises Cancels Sailings to the U.S. and Canada

Aida Cruises AIDAluna was expected to sail from New York to New England / Canada or the Coastal US and Bahamas - until AIDA cruises decided to cancel all 2020 US based cruises. Aida Cruises, a German based cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation , has made the decision to suspend all cruises to the United States and Canada in 2020 due to travel bans and restrictions in both countries. The cruise line has traditionally sailed from New York to both New England / Canada and East Coast ports like Norfolk, Charleston SC, Port Canaveral and the Bahamas on two ships. Most of their cruises feature overnight stay in New York to offer their German Clientele time to explore New York City. The AIDA ships have limited dining room eateries and were focused more on buffets and cooking stations. Based on the new corona restrictions, the cruise line will have to re-think their dining experiences. Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Spirit in Cold Lay up in Norfolk, Va. In an interesting move, Norwegian Cruise Line's 3 ships in cold layup in Norfolk, Virginia all headed out to sea on the morning of June 5th. The Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Spirit's departure is mechanical  in nature  intending to exercise the ship's engines,  desalinization plants, generate fresh water, generate power, test navigational equipment and more. Norwegian Cruise Line to Lay-Up 3 Ships in Norfolk, Virginia.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Spirit (Shown) along with the Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Encore will be temporarily docked in Norfolk, Virginia During last week's earning call, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that some ships would be moved to a cold lay-up status in order to reduce costs during the pause in operations. On Friday it was announced that 3 Norwegian Cruise Line ships - the Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore and the newly transformed Norwegian Spirit will be laid up at Norfolk Virginia's Portsmouth Marine Terminal . The ships reportedly have only a skeleton crew of 175 each. Crew member will NOT be allowed to go ashore but the ships will have reduced fuel, staffing and upkeep costs. The trade offs - these ships will require more time to reactivate to a cruising status. Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Bliss Leaves Her New York Anchorage for Layup in Norfolk, Va. Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Bliss left her New York anchorage  she occupied for the past 2 days. It was expected that she would either tie up at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal or Brooklyn Cruise Terminal until she is scheduled to resume service mid-April. It is believed that the progressing Coroniavirus incidents happening in NYC, caused Norwegian Cruise Line to look for other options for layup. The Norwegian Bliss left New York Anchorage Tuesday, 3/17/20 promptly at 5:20 PM she began heading out under the bridge destined for Norfolk, Va. She is expected to arrive in Norfolk at Midnight on March 19th. Saga Cruises Spirit of Discovery Maiden Arrival in New York As Part of Transatlanitc Caribbean Cruise.

Saga Cruises Spirit of Discovery Made Her Maiden Call in New York City Saga Cruises' New Spirit of  Discovery made a post Christmas visit to New York on December 27th - providing her British passengers an overnight stay in the Big Apple. The Spirit of Discovery was delivered in the June of 2019 and is a smaller ship weighing just under 50,000 tons and carrying approximately 1,000 passengers. Saga Cruises' specializes in vacations for those 50 years of old or over. The Spirit of Discovery headed to Bermuda and will spend New Year's Eve in Bermuda, before heading back to Southampton England - arriving on January 9, 2020. She departed from Southampton on December 5, 2019 and headed to the Portugal, the Caribbean and up the US east coast to Key West, Port Canaveral,  Norfolk and New York. There will be welcoming festivities including an official naming session for the ship. The Carnival Sunrise was previously the Carnival Triumph which was totally renovated and re-emerged as the Carnival Sunrise. After spending approximately $200 Million dollars on the ships refurbishment - she is very much a new ship. The ship's refit was completed in March and she sailed from Spain to Norfolk - where the Carnival Sunrise made a series of cruises to Bermuda and Florida / the Bahamas. Carnival Triumph Has Departed Shipyard in Cadiz Spain.

Transformation of the Carnival Triumph, now Carnival Sunrise, has completed in Cadiz Spain. The transformed Carnival Triumph has left the shipyard in Cadiz Spain late Friday (4/19/19). Work is continuing on the ship as she sails to Norfolk Virginia for a short series of cruises before coming to New York.  The Carnival Sunrise will sail a series of Bermuda, Florida, Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean and New England, Canada cruises from the Big Apple, before spending the winter sailing from Florida.. Carnival Triumph's Transformation To the Carnival Sunrise Well Under Weigh
