As predicted earlier cruise lines are starting to dispose of ships well before the end of their natural lives. This action is being driven by a number of underlying circumstances. One is the lack of demand for cruises in the near future. In addition, some of these older ship's accommodations do not offer balcony cabins. Forward looking most passengers will desire balcony cabins due to the fear of an outbreak of coronavirus and fear of being quarantined in their cabin.  It is expected that the demand for inside and outside cabins will definitely be less and the cruise lines will be forced to sell those at a much steeper discount. Prediction: Resort Stays will bounce back faster than cruise vacations. It is expected that resort based vacations will probably bounce back faster than cruise vacation. I believe that cruises will be slow to rebound after the virus due to the excessive negative press the cruise lines received. Although air travel may be as dangerous as boarding a cruise ship, there really has been no confirmed cases of people getting coronavirus on an airliner. This is primarily because people are usually at their destination or home at the time they show any symptoms and linking it back to air travel is very difficult.  I suspect that air travel will not be viewed as dangerous as cruising but that is not necessarily true. Predictions on the future of the cruise industry post coronavirus Here is my prediction of the future impacts of the coronavirus on the cruise industry in the months / years ahead.  Basically the damage has been done and it will be a long time before cruise passengers have confidence to return to the ships. In the near term 1-6 months: When cruise lines resume operations after a temporary suspension, a good number of their ships will remain laid-up. They just will NOT be able to fill all the ships right away. The number of cruise ports that prohibit cruise ship calls will increase. Bergen, Norway just joined the list of  destinations saying - "No Thanks" to the cruise lines. Ships will be laid up due to the lack of demand.  Itineraries will be altered based on the health of those onboard.
