More predictions for the cruise industry future. When will cruises start up again? These predictions are in addition to the prior predictions posted over a month ago. This week Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines have drastically reduced staff. Crew contracts for many ships have been terminated early. Ships are being loaded with crew and will shortly head from Florida / Bahamas ports to China, Indonesia, the Philippines and other Southeast Asia ports where many cruise ship staff originate to bring them home since air travel arrangements cannot be made. Cruise Lines Extend The Expected Date to Return to Service. As the dates cruise lines were expecting to resume service approach, cruise lines have realized the dates were overly optimistic. New target dates have been revealed and differ by cruise line. Overwhelmingly most cruise lines are not anticipating to resume operations until late early May. Since the dates change and vary by cruise line, I recommend checking out the cruise line's websites to get the latest plans. Latest Impacts of Coronavirus on the Cruise Industry Here is the latest round of impacts to the cruise industry due to the Coronavirus. Here are the happenings of the last 24 hours.  As expected, Carnival Cruises has announced a temporary suspension of their US cruise operations effective 3/14/2020.   Cruises are currently expected to resume on April 10, 2020. Luxury cruise line, Seabourn Cruise Line has also temporarily suspended operations. Cunard Line (A Carnival Brand) WILL continue to sail as planned since their ships are not currently departing from the United States. Fred Olsen Cruise’s Braemar is now a ships without a country. The ship has 5 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus. The ship, filled with British cruise passengers, has not found a port that will let the ship enter. Hurricane Dorian Leaves Destruction In Its Path - Cruise Lines Offer Some Relief After greatly damaging Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, Hurricane Dorian is making its way slowly up the east coast of the United States. Based on the reported damage to Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, it may be years before life return to normal. With the significant damage and loss of life,  the island has a long path to rebuild. Many cruise lines have donated relief money including Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. There was also a sizeable donation from the Arison family (founders of Carnival Cruises empire). The Bahamas is an important port of call for cruise lines, only being 90 miles from Miami and a frequent call on 3 and 4 day cruises from Florida.
