Italian Line's Sleek and Modern Ocean Liner Michelangelo and Raffaello. The final two new liners built for the Italian Line, the Michelangelo (April, 1965) and Raffaello (1965) were the luxurious, sleek, modern liners using many new construction materials. The superstructure of the liners was primarily made of lightweight aluminum.  Despite being planned as identical ships, Raffaello was 2.3 feet shorter, 1.3 feet wider, and approximately 22 tons larger than the Michelangelo. The Michelangelo weighed in at 45,933 tons; 903 feet long; carries; 1,775 Passengers and 720 crew. Built as 3 class liners, they were not well suited for the cruising trade when airlines grew in popularity and cruising  was the life blood of the transatlantic operators. Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas Sits in Bayonne Awaiting Test Results

Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas Passengers Checked for Coronavirus UPDATE 2/8/2020 at 9:40 PM. Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas is still sitting quayside in Cape Liberty Bayonne, NJ. She has been there since her arrival early Friday morning and select passengers were taken off and tested for the Coronavirus. The Anthem of the Seas is awaiting the final clearance from the CDC to sail. Reported not all of the test results have been returned. Royal Caribbean is now stating that the Anthem of the Seas will  depart Monday at 3 PM and has replaced the itinerary's call in Cape Canaveral, Coco Cay and Nassau with Kings Wharf Bermuda. The cruise has also been shortened to 5 days. Passengers on booked on the cruise have been asked to not report to the cruise pier until Monday afternoon.  Royal Caribbean has offered generous compensation for those wanting to sail on Monday  and full refunds for those choosing not to sail. As pert of this expansion, Canada is growing in popularity. Charlottetown, located on Prince Edward Island has seen a jump in passenger arrivals from 2018 to 2019 and is set for another jump in 2020. The Prince Edward Island port welcomed 120,000 cruise passengers in 2019 and expects a 40% increase in 2020 (approx 168,000 visitors). Charlottetown has about 36,100 full time residents. New York Plays Host to Extended Stay Ships

Princess Cruise Sun Princess (left) and Peaceboat's Ocean Dream (right) in NYC This weekend saw 2 unique visitors to New York, Each ship offered extended, multi-day stays in the Big Apple. First was Princess Cruises Sun Princess arriving in New York Friday Night as part of her World Cruise. Passengers were treated to two glorious days in New York. The Weather was perfect - Sunny, dry and clear making the stay enjoyable. The second ship was  the Japanese chartered Ocean Dream (aka the Peaceboat) also spent 2 days in New York bringing tourist to New York on a mission of peace and goodwill.  The Peaceboat began her career as Carnival Cruises' first new ship - the Tropicale. Both ships stayed very late, providing passengers the opportunity to enjoy an extended stay in NYC.
