Select Cruise Lines Try To Reenter Service With New Restrictions and Preventative procedures.

  German and Italian Cruise Brands start limited service - sailing short cruises restricted to domestic ports and Italian and German Nationals Select cruise lines has decided to start cruising operations outside of United States waters Norwegian cruise line - Sea Goddess has started cruises for Norwegian citizens on their private yachts - only calling at ports within Norway. Carnival Owned German cruise line Aida Kreuzfarten  is planning to start operations from German ports calling at select German cities. Royal Caribbean's jointly owned German cruise operation Mein Schiff began cruising last month - sailing short cruises to to nowhere for German nationals only. As part of the cruise, the ship sailed to the shipyard where is was built allowing passengers a view of the shipyard. Later this month Carnival Cruises' Italian brand Costa Cruises - will start sailing from Italy with 2 ships. The ships will be restricted to carry only Italian citizens and call only at Italian ports....

Marella Cruises' Marella Discovery on track to sail from Cape Canaveral to Bahamas and Coastal US cities in 2021 UK based Marella Cruises' has announced that they intend to operate a previously announced  series of 7-day cruises from Cape Canaveral, Florida sailing to Charleston, South Carolina, with an overnight stay in New York , a day visit to Freeport in the Bahamas and back to Cape Canaveral Florida (where the cruise ends). Even though the coroniavirus has caused cruise lines to re-think itineraries and base ship closer to home, the British / German operator is moving ahead as planned. These US based itineraries are sure to attract British Clientele offering a taste of the Big Apple and Americana. 11,500 German Cruise Passengers Converge at New York.

Phoenix Reisen's Amadea was one of 4 German Ships in New York on Monday. New York and New Jersey was host to over 11,500 German Tourists and crews as 4 ships focused on the German market called at the port on 10/14/2019. Monday saw 4 German cruise ships (plus the Caribbean Princess) docked in NYC. AIDA had 2 ships in port - The AIDAdiva & AIDAluna bringing some 6,250 passengers and crew to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Also at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal was Phoenix Reisen's Amadea which is a mid-sized ship carrying only 624 passengers and 300 crew. Finally in Bayonne, at Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal played host to over 3,900 passengers and crew from TUI's Mien Schiff 1.  The 4 ships menitoned above cater primarily to German speaking passengers and German is the primary language spoken on board. TUI / Mein Schiff's Mein Schiff 1 - Sailing a Series of Cruises From New York to New England / Canada and Florida/Bahamas Today Mein Schiff / TUI Cruises' newest ship - the Mein Schiff 1 arrived in New York as part of her transatlantic voyage. The ship will overnight in Cape Liberty, Bayonne, NJ. providing her passenger a night onboard and access to New York City. Passengers will disembark the next day, while a new group of passenger fly-in from Germany to board the ship for the next cruise. The new passengers are then treated to a day in New York City, before departing on 9/20 (Friday). The Mein Schiff 1 will sail on a series of  New England / Canada Cruises and Cruises to Florida and the Bahamas before heading to the Caribbean. Ships Moving To Avoid Hurricane Florence.

As Hurricane Florence approaches the United States East Coast cruise ships are seeking the protection of ports. Oceania Cruises' Insignia arrived in New York today (9/12/2018) at 7:00 PM - a full 12 hours ahead of her planned arrival of 7 AM tomorrow morning. Passengers will be able to spend a full night in NYC to enjoy the sights and sounds. As I am writing this at 11:00 PM (on 9/12) - Carnival Cruise's Carnival Horizon is about 1 hour outside of New York Harbor having sailed from Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic to New York. The route from the Dominican Republic hugged the coast and sailed between the US east coast and hurricane Florence to arrive in New York  ahead of the storm. The Carnival Horizon is preparing to leave New York on 9/13 to sail to Bermuda on a 4 day cruise. This will be her last passenger carrying voyage from New York in 2018. AIDA Cruises AIDAvita - One of a number of German cruise lines offering extended stays in New York on their New England, Canada Cruises. As stated in previous blog posts, as the fall approaches, many cruise lines re-locate their ships to New York to Sail on New England Canada Cruises.  These fall sailing are very popular among the German Cruise lines like AIDA and Mein Schiff (TUI Cruises) which use New York / New Jersey as a turn around port. Their cruises use New York as a embarkation and disembarkation port allowing passenger time to visit and explore the Big Apple. Usually the cruise lines add an overnight stay for their passengers in New York and the passengers can use the ship as their hotel. So for instance on a 14 day cruise, the ship arrive in New York on Day 13 allowing guests to stay onboard overnight and explore NYC. The cruise line is featuring 3 departures per week on average during peak months. Royal Caribbean has both the Anthem of the Seas and the Adventure of the Seas sailing from the port to Bermuda, the Caribbean and/or the Bahamas and Private Island - Coco Cay, Bahamas. Celebrity Cruises has the Celebrity Summit sailing weekly to Bermuda.
