All You Need to Know About Cruises From the Port of New York & New Jersey
Possibility of New Channel at NCL's Great Stirrup Cay
Norwegian Cruise Line's Private Island
Norwegian Cruise Line is looking at the possibility of dredging a new channel at its private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay. Guests get ashore by tender at the island, but when winds are strong, generally from the southeast, rough seas periodically result in a canceled port call. A solution would involve approaching the island from a direction not so affected by the southeast wind. No decision has been made yet.
Virgin Voyages has announced that the New York preview of their new ship - the Scarlet Lady - has been cancelled. The visit, originally scheduled for 3/6/2020 and staying the in Big Apple for about one week will not happen.
Virgin stated in a prepared statement: “In light of the current news
headlines, we want to ensure everyone feels it is the right time to
celebrate with us. We understand people may want to focus on other
things at the moment, so we have made the decision to reschedule our
upcoming Showcase Tour stop and events in New York City. We plan to sail
back to New York soon for you to visit her."
Virgin Voyages re-iterated that no one currently on the ship has any signs of the Coronavirus but the cancellation is being done as a precaution.
It was a prudent decisions since thousands of visitors and media were expected to visit the ship - which has a clean bill of health.

So far the results for passengers, thought to possibly have the Coronavirus, have come back negative. Although some additional tests are outstanding, results look promising that the passengers may have had the common flu and NOT the Coronavirus.
Royal Caribbean has decided to take caution and wait for all passenger test results to come in. Royal Caribbean has opted to take the additional time to further sterilize the ship and surfaces. With this said the Anthem of the Seas sits tonight (Friday) empty at Cape Liberty Bayonne, while the crew vigourously wipes down and sterilizes all parts of the ship.
The Anthem of the Seas is now scheduled to sail from Cape Liberty Bayonne on a 7 day cruise (no longer an 8 day cruise) on Saturday (2/8) at around 5 PM. An added day at sea has been eliminated and the cruise will still visit the anticipated ports in the Bahamas and Florida.
Stay tuned to track new developments.

is my prediction of the future impacts of the coronavirus on the cruise
industry in the months / years ahead. Basically the damage has been
done and it will be a long time before cruise passengers have confidence
to return to the ships.
In the near term 1-6 months: When cruise lines resume operations after a temporary suspension, a
good number of their ships will remain laid-up. They just will NOT be
able to fill all the ships right away. The
number of cruise ports that prohibit cruise ship calls will increase.
Bergen, Norway just joined the list of destinations saying - "No
Thanks" to the cruise lines. Ships will be laid up due to the lack of demand. Itineraries
will be altered based on the health of those onboard. Potentially sick
passengers will cause ports to be skipped or passengers to be
quarantined. Cruise capacity in Europe will be ratcheted back significantly.Additional cruise lines will sporatically lay up ships, especially in seasons where demand…
