These cruises frequently called at Nassau, Freeport and private islands in the Bahamas  on 7 day winter cruises. Here is the details of the current ban. "Our current situation demands decisive action if we are to avoid being overrun and being defeated by this virus," Minnis said in his address, noting that the Bahamas has confirmed 15 new cases for a total of 153 cases. 49 of the cases had been identified since the Bahamas reopened its borders on July 1.  Sea vessels carrying commercial passengers will also not be permitted to enter. Saturday A Quiet Port - Sunday Things Pick Up

Image
Manhattan Cruise Terminal on a busy day. - NY Economic Development Organization New York Harbor looked sad this Saturday. The temperature in New York City peaked out at 53 degrees and Sunny on Saturday 2/22/2020. People were outside enjoying the warmer weather and as I walked along the river - no cruise ships were in port. None of the busy port traffic was chris-crossing the Hudson River. Only the occasional ferry was sailing between New Jersey and New York. Missing were the excursion boats, tug traffic, yachts, pleasure craft and most of all - the cruise ships. The marine traffic was noticeably missing as the cruise ship piers remained empty. Sunday saw the arrival of the Norwegian Bliss and Anthem of the Seas. The Norwegian Bliss docked alongside pier 88 in Manhattan. The Anthem of the Seas docked in Cape Liberty, Bayonne, NJ. Both ships - surprisingly sailed on time which has been infrequent for the Norwegian Bliss. The Norwegian Bliss and Anthem of the Seas were sailing o...

Image
Hurricane Dorian Leaves Destruction In Its Path - Cruise Lines Offer Some Relief After greatly damaging Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, Hurricane Dorian is making its way slowly up the east coast of the United States. Based on the reported damage to Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, it may be years before life return to normal. With the significant damage and loss of life,  the island has a long path to rebuild. Many cruise lines have donated relief money including Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. There was also a sizeable donation from the Arison family (founders of Carnival Cruises empire). The Bahamas is an important port of call for cruise lines, only being 90 miles from Miami and a frequent call on 3 and 4 day cruises from Florida. Many cruise lines have their private islands in the Bahamas and those islands are being evaluated for damage after Dorian's wrath. Royal Caribbean has posted the following t...

Hurricane Dorian Has Limited Impact on New York Sailings

Image
Hurricane Dorian approaches Bahamas and Florida (Map CNN) Hurricane Dorian has had limited impact on cruises departing from New York, mainly because we are in the late summer/fall season.  At this time of the year, cruises ships from New York tend to head north to New England and Canada for cruise passengers to enjoy the splendor of the fall colors. Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Dawn, Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas and Carnival Cruise's Carnival Sunrise would normally venture to the Bahamas, Florida and their Private Islands all in danger of suffering the wrath of Dorian. The Norwegian Dawn and Adventure of the Seas headed north to New England / Canada. The Anthem of the Seas is sailing in New England / Canada and will be cruising to Bermuda later in the week. The Carnival Sunrise is well below the storm in the Dominican Republic and will be heading up the coast either behind or around the storm. RETURN TO NYCRUISEINFO WEBSITE   --...
