Will the Carnival Victory Ever Become the Carnival Radiance?

Image
Rendering of Carnival Cruises' Carnival Radiance - Refit Suspended. It is unclear if work will ever resume on the transformation  of the Carnival Victory to the Carnival Radiance at Spain's Navantia Shipyard. The Carnival Victory sailed transatlantic to Cadiz Spain and promptly entered the dry-dock. Demolition began on the Transatlantic voyage and work was planned to begin immediately. A Greek Ferry was chartered by the shipyard to house all of the workers during the 2 month,  $200 million dollar transformation into the Carnival Radiance. Before the ferry could reach the shipyard in Spain, it was diverted back to Greece because the Coronavirus hit Spain very hard and the shipyard was forced to pause operations.  All work stopped. The skeletal crew remained on board the ship and were trapped onboard in Spain. Work was to be completed by April 24, 2020 and the transformed Carnival Radiance was to sail a short series of European Cruises followed by a Transatlantic...

Aida Cruises Cancels Sailings to the U.S. and Canada

Image
Aida Cruises AIDAluna was expected to sail from New York to New England / Canada or the Coastal US and Bahamas - until AIDA cruises decided to cancel all 2020 US based cruises. Aida Cruises, a German based cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation , has made the decision to suspend all cruises to the United States and Canada in 2020 due to travel bans and restrictions in both countries. The cruise line has traditionally sailed from New York to both New England / Canada and East Coast ports like Norfolk, Charleston SC, Port Canaveral and the Bahamas on two ships. Most of their cruises feature overnight stay in New York to offer their German Clientele time to explore New York City. The AIDA ships have limited dining room eateries and were focused more on buffets and cooking stations. Based on the new corona restrictions, the cruise line will have to re-think their dining experiences. For the summer and fall of 2020 AIDA was expecting to sail the AIDAluna and AIDAdiva from New ...

Cruise Line Discounts? Highly Unlikely.

Image
Cruise lines not offering the discounts cruise passengers are expecting. With all the bad press and passenger fears, one would think that cruise lines would be offering steep discounts. It seems to be far from the situation. I did some spot checking of the cruise lines website and I am seeing strong pricing for sailings from New York.  Royal Caribbean still seems to be asking, on average, about $100/day for an interior cabin. The best deal I saw in August was an 11 day New England / Canada cruise on the smaller Empress of the Seas from Cape Liberty at $630/pp for an inside cabin.  Norwegian Cruise Line's pricing seem a little softer offering 7 day cruises starting at $519/pp for 7 day cruises to Bermuda; New England /Canada Cruises or Florida / Bahamas. This price is for an interior stateroom. The main reason why the discounts are not as deep as expected is primarily because cruise lines are not anticipating putting all their ships back in service immediately. T...

Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas Headed To Southampton England.

Image
Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas Brings British Crew members home. In an effort to get crew member home, Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas departed Coco Cay in the Bahamas on May 19th, 2020 heading toward Southampton, United Kingdom. The Empress of the Seas is expected to arrive on June 5th 2020.  It is unclear what the next port will be after the Southampton call. If the coronavirus had not occurred the Empress of the Seas would have been sailing from Cape Liberty, Bayonne New Jersey - sailing to Bermuda, or New England / Canada itineraries. Ahh What Would Have Been - Oasis of the Seas Maiden Voyage From Cape Liberty, NJ Yesterday 5/10/20

Image
Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas New York New Jersey 2020 Debut Delayed. If the world was back in order, yesterday would have been the maiden voyage of the totally renovated Oasis of the Seas from Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey. Although the Oasis class ships have been around for a while (some 12 years), yesterday would have marked the first time an Oasis Class ship visited New York. The 1,186 foot long, 213 foot long ship would have sailed a 7 day cruise to Cape Canaveral, Fla; Nassau, Bahamas ; and Coco Cay, Bahamas . Coco Cay is Royal Caribbean's Private Island - Branded as the Perfect Day at Coco Cay . Instead the Oasis of the Seas sits some 100 Nautical Miles Southeast of Freeport in the Bahamas awaiting a decision on the future. Oasis of the Seas carried 6,296 passengers at full capacity and a crew of 2,165 crew, The Oasis was expected to sail a series of these Florida and Bahamas cruises until October of 2020 along with a single cruise to Canada....

New York Cruise Ships Move Around. - Anthem of the Seas and Norwegian Bliss

Image
Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas - Heading to Coco Cay Bahamas to wait out the Coronavirus Temporary Suspension Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Bliss and Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas both arrived in New York / New Jersey on Sunday. Both let off passengers from their prior cruise and were expected to be laid up in Manhattan and Bayonne. In an unusual change of events, the Anthem of the Seas departed New York empty heading toward Coco Cay in the Bahamas at around 5:00 PM. The Norwegian Bliss departed the Manhattan Cruise Terminal at around 6:45 PM and sailed down the Hudson River and remained idling off of Staten Island/Fort Wadsworth, just prior to the Verranzaro-Narrow Bridge. Norwegian Bliss was moved (presumably) to make way for the Norwegian Gem which is arriving Monday morning. Not sure exactly why, since New York has adequate berth space for 6 cruise ships simultaneously. Not sure why the Anthem of the Seas departed from New Jersey today - but ...
